Commercial Break 30x40in Mixed Media on Canvas
I think of all the art I've created, this is one of those pieces that evidences what I do in the realest way. I wanted to build a television out of cardboard. I have built pieces before for art pieces, but this was the largest and arguably most intricate piece that I've had to build. This is one of the most time consuming pieces I've created. Keepers took a while because of the layers of paint. This one took a while because of the number of moving parts. It's a 30x40 in mixed media on canvas. The television is cardboard, the screen is an acrylic pour. It took a few weeks to complete.
I modeled the television after an old TV my grandmother had. We weren't really allowed to watch a lot of television during the week, but on the weekends, we would fill our time with video games and cartoons. This piece, as a work of art, talks about how important it is to take a break from media. The color is around the television, symbolizing the beauty of life happening outside the screen.
