i shall wear a crown 11x14 mixed media on canvas
I love traditional African masks. To me, mask making is a sacred art. As I grow and develop as an artist, I definitely look to my spirit guides and ascended masters for guidance in painting masks, or, anything really. This piece is inpsired by the Richard Smallwood version of the song, but I always think about my grandmother's grandmother singing something like this. A lot of my work nods at the spiritual songs of the enslaved. They're inherently tenacious and determined. That kind of resilience sustains me during the hard times. Even though I'm no longer Christian, I acknowledge the role of Christ consciousness and the power of faith. Pieces like this help me give voice to that idea. This is an 11x14 in mixed media work on canvas.
