the beautiful boy
I think part of the inspiration for this piece came from the senseless lynching of Ahmaud Arbery. Any time a murder like this occurs, I tend to think about the victim's mother. How arduous a task it is to rear a Black child, and love that child with your whole heart only to have that child murdered like an animal. The pain of losing someone is enough as is, but to have his life reduced, scrutinized and vilified in a feeble attempt to justify his murder has to be a kind of pain that cannot be verbalized or understood unless it is experienced first hand. But who would want to know that pain? Who would want to have to defend a human life, their beautiful boy, against the defilement of his character after his death? This is an 11x14 in mixed media on canvas. Perfect for your beautiful boy.
